Amadou Pape Fall was born on the 3rd of July 1947 in Rufisque, 28 km from Dakar. I 1966 Pape Fall began his career as musician and singer with Dakar Rythme, which he soon quit to join L’Africain Jazz. In 1968, he joined the Youth Band of Dakar which became the Dunya Orchestra, with whom he won the trophy of the National Youth Week of Senegal on many occasions.
In 1971 Pape Fall joined the great Laba Soce, his good friend at the heart of the Super International Band, which had recently returned from the Ivory Coast. In 1972 it was the Super Cap Vert Band of Rufisque, that welcomed Pape Fall. Soon he would leave to join the Star Band of Dakar, where he found Laba Soce, Youssou N’Dour, Mar Seck and Idrissa Diop. Pape Fall released four discs with the Star Band, which were produced and directed by Ibra Kasse between 1976 and 1978.
In 1980 Pape Fall quit the Star Band to form his own group, the Africa Band, which later became Nder de Dakar. With this band he released his first cassette ”Nagou”.
Four years later Pape Fall reunited with Ibra Kasse, father of Senegalese music and owner of the Miami Night Club and Star Band. This time the collaboration lasted eight years, until the death of Ibra Kasse in 1992. Pape Fall continued to tour with the band, now renamed the Kasse Band, until he created his own group, African Salsa in 1995. He released the higly acclaimed cassette ”Ke Jaraxam”. African Salsa celebrated the group’s anniversery with a massive public response at the temple of arts in Dakar. Two years later African Salsa released their second cassette ”Domou Nedeye”.
African Salsa has since then had a remarkable success, and in 1998 the band made its first appearance in London., at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and also at the African Centre at Covent Garden.

A remarkable well produced salsa album by Pape Fall. He was also represented on the compilation "African Salsa" from Earthworks (see under the menu Compilations)
On that album I felt that the African salsero was standing a little in the shadow of for instance Africando. This time, however, given the possibillity to present himself on a whole album, his talent really shines through. The album containes a well arranged and varied bundle of salsa from Senegal. The sound, produced in Dakar, is warm and clean, and a row of good instrumentalists present their solos, especially Wilfred Zinzou on trombone should be mentioned. The African salsa has a slightly different touch from Cuban, through the language, of course, which is Wolof, but also through use of tama, talking drum, which suits the music perfectly. The lyrics, also added in the booklet, are about art and the artists' importance for the nation, here Senegal, and they are poetic and well written.
